Moving Wood Logs Around
We lost so many trees, and now we have to deal with the logs. We cut the trees down in longer piecess, so we can mill our wood to make flooring, decorational ceiling beams and whatever creative ideas we will come up with. We will have to decide whether to mill it onsite, which means buying a mill ($7-10k) or getting everything done at a milling company, which means carrying every log to and from (lots of CO2 emissions compared to the onsite milling). We did it before for our old house onsite with a portable mill and a professional miller, planing cutting, and laying the boards ourselves to make our floors. Maybe now we can try milling ourselves, too!
Garden work
Someday we will have our garden back.
We figure it is best to start with a compost bin. We decided to build our first compost bin – a quick and simple set up (no plastic).

Tiny House
We ordered a tiny house back in February, and it finally arrived. We are all looking forward to using it, and do the final furnishing with tables, chairs, bed, curtains, etc., but …We were running into a big surprise. The tiny house is more than a foot wider than the design sheet showed, and we can’t fit it through our gate!
Our neighbor was so nice to offer his burnt-down lot to park it until we figured out a solution.
Unfortunately, although his gate is wide enough, the oak tree next to the gate makes it very challenging to move it in without hurting the tree or damaging the tiny house. After 1.5 hours of moving inches forward, backward, and sideways, we gave up.
We are trying to insure it and praying nothing happens to it while we figure out what the heck to do.
Road Closures and Repairs
Road repair-means random road closure!
We had to drive a detour of 30 min a few times.
Why doesn’t Public Works let homeowners know about closures? A gentle constructive tip to our friends at the County – this would be helpful.
