Burned Damaged Trees – part 2

We are still working on the dead tree removal, which is taking long, dreary days to complete. On Diane’s first visit, she said it looked like the Game of Thrones, except instead of dead body parts thrown about on the eerie green hillside, it’s dead tree parts. We thought this process would feel more like having a clean slate. Instead it feels like a kick in the heart all over again. The natural architecture, the fundamental character of our property has changed.
Today, it feels like it has been destroyed.

We struggle to envision a better future when beauty and life revive once more. We are realistic about the immense cost, time, and energy this will take. We are bereft and exhausted. Matthias has been there every long day helping with the hauling, chipping, and supervising. Diane had to work through most of it, but in her zero spare time, still managed to find a source to buy 6-7 foot tall coastal oaks, which we will plant a lot of in November. We will not be alive to see them reach maturity. We take comfort in the hope that it may be enjoyed by a younger generation of Malibu children whom we love and that we are acting for seven generations, as the indigenous people from whom we inherited the stewardship of this land would have wanted. We also found a fruit tree source and imagine eating wonderful sweet nectar some day on our land. The pine remains at least smell fragrant, and there are some good logs for floors, and maybe even a couple for cross beams. Onward.

Tiny House

The tiny house we ordered in February 2019 is finally getting ready to be delivered to Malibu.
